The only word to rhyme with listen
has always been glisten
Never thought those words matched
never knew where they attached
I’ve always loved to analyze
tap into people and theorize
Watched the way a conversation could spill
the way a synchronicity could thrill
And when I started listening to me
passion started glistening to be
I taught my fire to always burn
now it’s time to let love learn
It’s a dance to balance both
but it’s the key to true growth

Maybe your definition of listening
is going within and glistening
Maybe it’s a form of empathy
kindness, not sympathy
Something is always speaking
breathing, not seeking
When we tune into the beat
letting fire and love meet
Life tells us when to listen
leaves space for you to glisten

  1. Beautiful, Grace!

“Life tells us when to listen
leaves space for you to glisten”

You’re right, it’s an underrated skill and yet essential for true communication ❤

I also thought of "frisson" as a rhyme, but you're right, there aren't many! 🙂

  2. Your poetic sentiments are profound and reflective, my friend Grace. Sometimes it is good to know how to listen to life and even more so when it tells us to do so. I’ll keep the ending of your writing…
“Life tells us when to listen
leaves space for you to glisten”.

    Hugs from afar.

  3. This is such a beautiful poem from start to finish. It’s so much fun to read aloud as you incorporated a really harmonizing rhythm with rhyme format..that just naturally flows out when reading it….and then what you say is the pure icing with cherry on top. I loved the playing with listen/glisten and how you use it as a state of being, a high state of grace…that comes from listening. Paraphrasing…:) There is a time to listen…and I time to glisten…learn to recognize each and how they work off each other. Wonderful Grace!! Very inspiring once again 🙏🌹🤗

  4. Grace, makes a glisten, when we take the time to listen. Moments, about the heart not missing, the times when love is glistening. The soul, listening for the rhythm, the rhyme, that happens every time; love lyrically glistens, across the heartstrings! Well done!👏

  5. Last two lines of the poem say it all, Grace! I love the concept of listening and too within, I love the way you have distinguished empathy from sympathy, and I love the way you have conveyed such a deep message in simple terms. This is simply brilliant, my friend 👌😊❤️
