A four-letter word
Spoken and heard
A four-letter word
Clear and blurred

Starts with an L, ends with an E
The feeling of true glee
Starts with an L, ends with an E
The realization of being free

Commonly referred to as romance
Internally defined as the heart’s dance
Commonly referred to as romance
Universally outlined as the forever glance

They say you fall
It’s more of a call
They say you fall
In breaking your wall

Some of us are scared
From times we dared
Some of us are scared
From times we shared

We all have it within
Knowing yourself beyond skin
We all have it within
It’s the intrinsic grin

If you made it to this line
You’ll know this isn’t the love of being mine
If you made it to this line
You’ll know this is the love to internally shine

-Grace

On a day that we’re told is about celebrating “love”, remember you spend the most time with yourself in this life experience – the truest love is within.

  1. Oo, I love the consciousness that binds this poem together and the way it flows down into the final four lines that connect with me so much. Truly, we spend the most time with ourselves and that self-love is essential. ❣️

  3. I’ve been thinking more about self-love lately and feel it was more than a little synchronistic reading your verses, especially “knowing yourself beyond skin” and of course your comment at the end. Valentine’s Day is a great day to love ourselves just as much as others and truly see we are all connected in this magical four letter word! 💘💐💘

      • Yes, sometimes I’m skeptical of certain synchronicities, but always try to be mindful of them. The self-love seems to be something very important as I’ve been getting that message quite a bit. The dots are there, just have to slow down and zoom in to see them! 💗

  4. So imbued with the deep knowledge that love is not just skin deep and projected outwards. It is an eternal very intrinsic part of us, and we need to learn to love ourselves first, before we will truly be capable of loving another. I love how you say this Grace, Your format , 4 lines..Repeating the 1st and third is just brilliant and calls the reader to look deeply.into what you are really saying. My wise friend, you life has taught you many secrets already, and you find it easy to share them within your poetry. Your energy in this one is just fantastic. Perfect for Feb, 14th!! Such a meditative reflection on love! Bravo Beauty!! ❤️

  5. Absolutely awesome poem, Grace! Content, meaning and format, all are beyond excellence. I fully resonate with this poem. Repetition of a line in the same stanza adds charm. The way you have pieced everything together is brilliant. Well penned 😊❤️❤️

  6. Beautifully written. Actually there wouldn’t be a specific day to celebrate love, since this is lived every day and as you rightly say…. “the truest love is within”, it is better to enjoy it and find it every day.
    Hugs from afar, Grace.
