we’re alerted by dings
through little boxes that light up our screen
we tune in when it rings
letting this machine set our scene

what if we were alerted by an internal ding
a little chime that lights up what’s beyond the screen
what if we tuned in before hearing a ring
living what’s within, creating our every scene

we once lived in a world without dings
a little existence lit up by humans, not a screen
we tuned in to whistles of nature, not blatant rings
listening to the heart, forgetting there was a scene

like anything, there is joy and goodness in every ding
sometimes the message lights up the inner screen
sometimes a smile comes when we hear that ring
knowing that connection is real and more than a scene

if we’re being fully true, life is more than a ding
being yourself is so much more than acting on a screen
there is a rhythm within, a natural ring
harmonizing our moments, aligning every scene

speechless

there are times i’m out of words
and it makes me question
what it means to be a writer
but those speechless times
bring my words to life
it’s in that silence and in that zone
where my words carry weight
there is no word without purpose
a word has a code rooted within
i can sort some syllables
and make sentences rhyme
but there’s nothing more real
than a true word
stacked with another
and flowing into something bigger
yet the truest part of a word
is what it means to me
what it means to you will be different
and that’s the beauty of truth
we awaken our own dreams
maybe that’s why there are people
and there are creators

Author’s Note – I wrote this yesterday in all of 15 minutes, I was in that zone :). And upon catching up on my reader this morning, I realized today is World Poetry Day :). It is a little bit wild to me that when you follow your inner muse, it leads you to exactly what you’re meant to express. If there’s any type of perfection, that is it.

Be who you are, not what you’re sold
Achieve your dreams, break the mold
Listen within, be your own gold
Actualize your visions, young and old
Names and labels are controlled
Character and authenticity will always hold
Even the invisible moments are yours to be told

Breathe without any fear
Access a new internal gear
Laugh when you’d rather shed a tear
Assurance is always there to hear
Not a worry when you forget how to steer
Call the heart no matter how severe
Each day creates your chosen year

Bettering thyself is the only thing true
Action inside lets it all brew
Love always stays, yet it still flew
Acceptance is easy when you know it’s the glue
Natural highs bid “tougher” days adieu
Caged fires are fires we always knew
Ease into the sprint, be your own breakthrough

What if we got excited to be scared?
What if we ran towards instead of running away?
There is a joy in having dared
There is a drive to not betray
What if we relived an experience through new eyes?
What if we loved our regrets because of all they taught us to be?
Perception never lies
Regrets or just how you see
What if we opened the door instead of guarding our walls?
What if we could see the invisible aligning?
That’s where the disguise falls
The fun is in the refining
What if this is a dream we’re living in?
What if we can be lucid and change the scene?
Your reality is your own spin
You create what’s seen
What if change was just a theory yet to be proven?
What if life always went the way you envisioned?
You’d be your own illusion
You’d be internally imprisoned
What if we had no memory and only knew the now?
What if the concept of time was simply a distraction?
Memory is your teacher, but the moment will always be your vow
It is, live to the clock of inner interaction
What if I never find every answer?
You won’t, there’s a song to life – be the dancer

fragments

our days are fragments
of our lives
our minutes are fragments
of our hours
our moments are fragments
of who we are

our lives begin
the moment we’re born
our fragments make up our reality
but our reality is made of the unforeseen
so our lives begin
the moment we choose to live

there’s a balance to our fragments
like the way a creek will sway
there are times when we’re meant to learn
and times we’re meant to experience
one fragment will lead to the next
and then it will all make “sense”

if we were born to live
then there’s more than filling the years
there’s a rhythm to find and a flight to catch
there’s living and failing, rising and falling
a fragment needs another to connect
but a fragment trusts another to teach

Who knows where we go
when we let go
Who knows what kicks in
when we give in
We’re in this never-ending dance
to rise and to fall
We dwell in this distance
of living and becoming
There is no right or wrong way
just a leap of knowing how to be
We escape and we run to what we think is true
but when we sit and stay, we bask in what truly is
We wonder if we’re meant to come together
or stay in pieces that simply work with each other
We look up at life as if we’re under an overpass
but in the most real sense, we are the life we look up to
Whether your reality is your own or a borrowed piece of time
it’s a gift to live outside one’s mind
Living is a consistent constant
and being is a chosen instant

An instant that can become your constant

Open book with a stash of bookmarks
Sky of blue with a crimson hue
A winter day with a heated night
A warm meal with a cold drink
Written pages with an unfinished title
A story with an ending still waiting for the beginning
An emotion without a thought
A solution with a hidden mystery
Steady with surprises
Wild in peace
A laugh with a deeper meaning
Listening with a talking heart
A magnifying glass staring into nothing
Nothingness full of life
A full circle with an open maze
A word with an undefined definition

Am I story written or read
A mystery with a solve or a solved mystery
Am I the yin to my yang
Or am I looking for the yang to my yin
If life is my palette
Am I all the different colors
Or the piece being painted
If life is paradoxical
Where do we come up with certainty?

Just some random authentic thoughts compiled into what you’d call “ a whole piece”. In a world of paradoxes, I call it a “piece of a puzzle”. 🙂
this dreamy descent

We talk about lifelong memories
The way they shape our inner documentaries
We talk about seizing a moment, a specific time
The way it’ll harmonize like our favorite chime

There’s a climb and a descent
A climb to the day we always dreamt
A descent back to normal when it’s over
The way a love can become your closure

We dream of a specifically distinct vision
It becomes the something that makes us driven
The day comes when that vision is your reality
Smacks you in the face, this waking fantasy

You think about all that could go wrong
The fears flutter like a disjointed song
But something kicks in and wakes you up
Reminded of who you are, it fills your cup

Then you live everything going so right
As if perfection truly is in sight
You pull through a hard obstacle
Like a puzzle you didn’t know was solvable

When you’re just about done
You’re taken back to when it all begun
The win seems like it’s floating away
But it’s still right there if you stay

There will be moments it doesn’t feel like a dream
Moments you wonder why you chose this theme
There will be times you’d rather crash than fly
Times you wonder why you want the high

But that something comes whooshing back
Pushes the fear to the side with a whack
Reminds you to look around, to remember who you are
To feel the fire deep inside your shooting star

So you look at everyone in your crew
You look within, remembering you grew
You take a deep breath, gather your force
And that’s why the dream is your source

Staring at the world in front, eyes wide and senses alive – yet there is nothing to see. The mind floats around from one idea to the next, one memory to one dream and one moment of hurricane to one moment of nothingness. There’s a peace in the wandering mind, a sense of home in the fluttering of familiar rabbit holes. In that comforting moment of internal adventure, everything outside evaporates into a new imagination.

She’s staring ahead, eyes on me, yet the heart seems to be on a different adventure. There’s something so alive in her gaze yet so dead in her attention to the outside. If there was a bubble around each of us, hers would be so intently fixated on every little detail of the present yet so mysterious in its grasp of reality. Her eyes may be focused on one thing, but her truest eye is flowing in another. I guess that’s where the lines of vision and sight get blurred.

Author’s Note – Inspired by the gym :-). I’m a total gym-rat and in-between sets the other day I was staring ahead but totally not fixated on what I was staring at, just in my own world. So, this piece is an elaboration of that. The first verse being my point of view and the second being the point of view of…whatever my eyes seemed to be set on :-).

Spoken and heard
A four-letter word
Clear and blurred

Starts with an L, ends with an E
The feeling of true glee
Starts with an L, ends with an E
The realization of being free

Commonly referred to as romance
Internally defined as the heart’s dance
Commonly referred to as romance
Universally outlined as the forever glance

They say you fall
It’s more of a call
They say you fall
In breaking your wall

Some of us are scared
From times we dared
Some of us are scared
From times we shared

We all have it within
Knowing yourself beyond skin
We all have it within
It’s the intrinsic grin

If you made it to this line
You’ll know this isn’t the love of being mine
If you made it to this line
You’ll know this is the love to internally shine

On a day that we’re told is about celebrating “love”, remember you spend the most time with yourself in this life experience – the truest love is within.
